Keemun black tea is one of the world's three famous black teas, along with Uva and Darjeeling, and is hand-picked and carefully processed in Xiamen in Anhui Province, China.
It is the most well-known Chinese tea and is especially popular in the UK. Keemun tea is said to be drunk on the Queen's birthday.
I drink Keemun tea not only in the morning but also in the afternoon with some sweets to take a break and refresh.
One afternoon when I was in the mood to relax, I drank Keemun tea with Chinese a snack called "Mahua" (Fried Dough Twist).
Dry leaves have a sweet and pure aroma like muscat, and I got ready to enjoy the tea. I used a gaiwan to enjoy its taste.
After pouring hot water (95 degrees C/ degrees F) and waiting for a second, I opened the lid, and a beautiful aroma like a flower came up. This fragrance is called "Xiamenxiang" (The fragrance of Xiamen) and is described as the fragrance of orchids. The color of the tea is a beautiful reddish brown.
The First Steeping
It has a gorgeous aroma, as if demonstrating all the power it has from the beginning. Because there are few tannins, there is not much bitterness or astringency.
The Second Steeping
Instead of a gorgeous aroma、I felt richness and sweetness. It goes well with sweets that are not too sweet. And I felt that my stomach warmed up as I drank.
Because it is fully fermented, it has a strong warming effect on the body, and because the polyphenols are oxidized by fermentation, it can help sooth the stomach.
After I enjoyed the third steeping, I was totally refreshed and full of energy.
I felt once again that drinking tea is an important spice in my daily life.
